Guidelines

These guidelines cover two aspects of Monash Health: our writing style and our visual identity.

Writing style guide

The writing style guide exists to help maintain a professional and consistent writing style across Monash Health. Our goal is to make things as simple and clear as possible — to make it easier for people to interact with us.

The writing style guide is designed to be used alongside Monash Health’s visual identity guide.

Visual identity guide

We are still completing the details of our full visual identity guide. The following information explains how to use our logo alongside our current visual identity.

Please continue to refer to the 2014 style guide for any aspect of our visual identity not covered below.

Using the full colour logo

The full colour Monash Health logo, which features a mid blue to dark blue gradient, should only be used on a plain white background.

Keep sufficient clear space around the logo

Always ensure there is sufficient clear space around the Monash Health logo. This makes it easier to read the logo, and it means the Monash Health logo does not become confused with other logos, images, or graphic elements.

The clear space around the logo should be equivalent to the height of the M in the word Monash. This is represented in the diagram below as the value x.

The clear space around the logo at minimum should be equivalent to the height of the M in the word Monash.

The clear space around the logo at minimum should be equivalent to the height of the M in the word Monash.

The correct amount of clear space around the logo ensures it is clearly separate from other graphic elements in the design.

Not leaving enough clear space around the logo means it could be difficult to properly read.

Maintain colour and shape

The Monash Health logo asset pack contains three different colour variations of our logo. These variations include full colour (a pre-set mid blue to dark blue gradient), monochromatic dark blue, and monochromatic white.

The Monash Health logo should never be changed to another colour. The sole exception is when the logo may appear in greyscale or black and white environments (for example, a printed document).

The logo should not be recoloured.

The gradient in the logo is a pre-set and should not be altered.

The shape and proportions of the Monash Health logo should not be altered. Please ensure that you maintain the proportions of the logo when making it smaller or larger. Do not make the logo so small that the words Monash Health cannot be read.

The logo should not be stretched or skewed.

Don’t alter or merge the logo

The refreshed Monash Health logo should only be used in situations when you would have used the previous standalone Monash Health logo. Do not update any existing sub-brand, department-level, or partnership logos.

Please do not separate the new Monash Health logo emblem from the logo text. Currently, the only exception is when the logo used in the context of an icon or avatar (e.g., social media profile picture).

The logo should not be blended with existing sub-brand logos.

The logo emblem does not clearly represent the Monash Health visual identity when used without context.

Using the RGB or CMYK version of the logo

The Monash Health logo is available in two different colour formats: RGB and CMYK.

RGB stands for red, green and blue. These are the colours displayed on screens, such as computer displays and televisions. Use the RGB versions of the Monash Health logo when creating designs that will be viewed digitally, such as websites and electronic documents.

CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These are colours used by printers. Use CMYK versions of the Monash Health logo when creating designs that will be printed, such as publications and uniforms.

If you’re unsure about which version to use, please get in touch with us.
